SUMMARY:

This role for Meta Reality Labs’ Camera Architecture Team is to collaborate with Meta’s camera imaging experts and engineers to find answers to key product questions that impact camera hardware products such as Oculus, Ray Ban Stories, Facebook Portal, and other devices. This role is within the Reality Labs Camera Architecture team, which works in collaboration with product teams in Reality Labs to define the cameras used by Meta’s next generation AR & VR products.

In general, the candidate will leverage applied scientific reasoning, mathematics, programming, and our internal tools to provide camera imaging answers needed to deliver AR/VR & wearable camera products.

For this role, the candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to

• Collaborate with Camera Architects and Camera Systems Engineers on technical analysis problems needed to design & build camera products for Meta’s AR/VR devices
• Coordinating analyses, gathering data, and running imaging simulations using our internal tools in collaboration with our imaging experts to find answers to key problems
• Summarizing analyses & results for presentations and technical reports for proposed imaging products to be shared with cross functional groups within Meta Reality Labs


BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Education and/or equivalent experience in a STEM field such as optical engineering, physics, imaging/color science, electrical engineering, or computer science
• Ability to code Matlab, Python and experience with creating scientific visualization and presentation of scientific data;
• Broadly understands the science and functionality of cameras, lenses, and camera imaging concepts; key design parameters of the camera
• Deep understanding of one or more domains relevant to camera: physics of imaging, lens optics, image sensor, image processing;
• Strong technical and visual communication skills; able to arrange scientific data in an intuitive manner for presentation to cross-functional groups

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience with imaging system simulation methods and tools such as ISET, FRED, ZEMAX, CODE V, and others.
• Strong coding abilities in C++. Experience with CUDA, Cloud Computing.
• Familiarity with imaging lab and ability to capture data using sensor dev boards, imaging charts, and lighting setups
• Experience with prototyping, camera calibration, or evaluation of multiple camera systems.
