We encourage a strong sense of ownership and embrace the ambiguity that comes with working on the frontiers of new technology.We are seeking a Technical and 3D Art Lead to drive development and deployment of assets for a new product we are developing: the Global Historical Archive (GHA). GHA’s vision is to enable people to defy distance and engage with heritage sites around the world in VR. You’ll work with global site stakeholders and our team of designers, engineers, scientists, and more to digitize heritage assets, optimize and deploy assets for VR, and experiment with cutting edge ways to scalably share heritage assets.As a Technical and 3D Art Lead, your primary responsibility will be to drive our asset pipeline forward with a mix of hands-on development and team facilitation. As a hands-on leader, you’ll develop and optimize heritage assets including new and existing photogrammetric sites scans, artifacts, and more. As a facilitator, you’ll collaboratively set and drive key results in our production pipeline while also being a lead contributor to related strategic initiatives. You’ll work with global teammates throughout. Your blend of hands-on skills and facilitation will be a catalyst on a shared mission to help people defy distance and engage with global heritage.

Technical Artist, New Product Experience Responsibilities:

  • Drive Production by Example: drive assets to production by leading tasks such as 3D asset optimization (topology reduction, draw call reduction, etc.), texture and mesh revisions, profiling and latency reductions in Unity, shader prototyping, and more
  • Facilitate a Global Pipeline: facilitate a global team to constantly explore updated tooling, scripting optimizations, new workflows in asset construction, and more so that we can lead and regularly improve upon a world-class pipeline for delivering heritage assets
  • Optimize a Global Pipeline: partner with teammates to set asset guidelines, align on production budgets and schedules, resolve cross-functional blockers, improve efficiency, facilitate reviews, and meet production dates so that we can deliver value to our audiences seeking to explore heritage in VR
  • Explore Strategic Catalysts: drive progress at people- and project-facing levels by exploring catalysts such as building new partnerships, supporting team growth and prioritization, leading experimental sprints, and more
  • Drive Learning as a Core Value: educate cross-disciplinary teammates about technical and 3D art best practices, welcome the same from teammates in different disciplines, and contribute to a teamwide culture of learning and development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience using 3D asset tools and engines to create realistic, interactive AR/VR experiences (usage of Unity and Reality Capture will be a requirement, skills in tools such as Blender, Houdini, Photoshop, etc. will also be needed)
  • 3+ years of experience with optimizing 3D assets and pipelines via skills in pipeline design, asset and engine profiling, creation of scripted workflows (Python, C#, etc.), etc.
  • 3+ years of experience in general mobile platform work in modeling, texturing, shaders, etc.
  • Interest in cross-functional communication and expanded facilitation responsibilities such as leading experiments, building partnerships, leading through complex stakeholder priorities, managing multiple projects from high level vision to task leadership, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant visual art or technical field such as Computer Animation, Graphic Design or Computer Science
  • Individuals with an interest for graphics pipelines, emerging technologies, and breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and machine learning will have myriad opportunities to explore advancements in 3D asset creation and rendering
  • Individuals with an interest for general design and concepting will have myriad opportunities to contribute to various creative efforts: branding, concept artistry, interactive prototypes, etc.
  • 1+ years experience in facilitating team progress and driving strategic project execution, preferably demonstrated via clear communication skills and 2+ years of work in project management (defining and driving pipelines, goals, budgets, schedules, contracts, etc.)
  • Proven experience proactively driving complex cross-functional tasks to completion with little supervision, preferably demonstrated via cross-functional work in shipping production-ready assets for one or more AR/VR experiences
