As a Camera Module Engineer at Reality Labs you will have the opportunity to lead camera system design, development, manufacturing, and system integration. Cameras are an integral part of AR/VR systems, a determining factor in fidelity and immersion. You will collaborate across multiple projects with optics engineers, product designers, computer vision scientists, and user experience designers to enable novel AR/VR experiences. You will also work with vendors to develop novel imaging technologies while delivering high performance products.

Camera System Engineer (University Grad) Responsibilities:

  • Drive innovation in imaging solutions for RL AR/VR products.
  • Participation in camera system design, prototyping, development, manufacturing and system integration for AR/VR products.
  • Participation in contract manufacturer component and camera system manufacturing support.
  • Work with internal cross-functional teams and contract manufacturer camera integrators and component suppliers on DFM and camera module assembly NPI line bring-up.
  • Work with internal cross-functional teams on characterization, validation and qualification of components (image sensor, lens, electrical components etc.) and camera systems.
  • Work with image sensor and camera module vendors to define roadmaps, priorities, and custom solutions for AR/VR products.
  • Provide camera system metrology and validation plan and instructions to internal and/or external design, prototyping and manufacturing groups.
  • Debug optical/electrical/mechanical issues during camera module development.
  • Design and implement optical tests on camera module, lens, and other optical and imaging components in optical lab environment.
  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience in camera module design, optical simulation, metrology, testing and lab work to verify imaging component, assembly and system level performance.
  • Experience in MATLAB, Python, and/or other simulation, programming, and analysis tools.
  • Experience with optical lab test design, implementation, and documentation.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience with electrical circuit design and test.
  • Experience with imaging lens design and characterization.
  • Experience with image sensor design, characterization and tuning.
  • Experience with color science and image quality evaluation.
  • Experience with ISP tuning.
  • Experience with camera module manufacturing processes and production testing.
  • Experience with depth sensing system design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with mechanical tolerance analysis and image processing in Python or MATLAB.
  • Experience with ME CAD tools for ME parts and test fixture design.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
