Job Description
We are looking for a Creative Coder to join our existing team of immersive Sound Designers at Meta. The Sound Design Team at Facebook is a group that specializes in creating sonic experiences that push the boundaries of immersive technologies. Candidates must have a passion for sound, a history of innovative work with sound and technology, and an ability to communicate thoughtfully about sound and its impact on audiences. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to collaborate closely with other team members and product groups.
Creative Coder, Sound Design Responsibilities:
- Use creativity and product thinking to develop prototypes and experiences that reinforce team and company priorities
- Create custom prototypes, tools, and features using a variety of platforms and programming languages
- Take projects from idea to functional prototype across a range of fidelities, using a variety of design tools and programming languages, and implementing on multiple platforms
- Articulate prototype/design decisions to internal stakeholders and provide feedback to partners
- Collaborate closely with sound designers and producers to create unique sonic experiences
- Execute in a fast-paced and highly fluid environment, collaborate with teams in other offices, and assist in driving projects to completion
- Leverage code as a design medium to bridge the gap between product goals and engineering implementation
- Strategic collaboration with Design, Product and Executive teams
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years audio design and development experience (industry, academia) for Web, Mobile, Games, Hardware, or AR/VR
- 2+ years experience with technical sound implementation for games, media, and/or interactive experiences
- 1+ years experience with software development and familiarity with C#, C++, JavaScript, or other modern programming languages
- Sound ideation and prototyping experience with proven understanding of user-centered design principles
- Experience with object-oriented programming & design
- Experience debugging projects in a variety of development environments
- Communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience articulating prototype/design decisions to internal stakeholders and providing feedback to partner teams
- Understanding of DSP and signal processing
- Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills
- Link to portfolio list or demo reel of projects demonstrating experience in sound implementation and/or building innovative tools/prototypes
Preferred Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Audio or Music Technology, Computer Science, Transmedia, or equivalent
- Working knowledge of sound capabilities of AR or VR software tools
- Experience with Python or shell scripting
- Experience working directly in game engines (Unity, Unreal, etc.), and with audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD, etc.)
- Experience with WebAudio and/or Tone.js and/or OpenAL
- Experience with version control tools & systems (Mercurial, Git, Perforce)
- Interactive Sound Design or Music composition skills
- Experience with implementation, development and release/shipment of audio content on mobile, web, hardware, and/or VR platforms
- Experience with visual design and implementation in 2D (e.g. Figma, Illustrator) or 3D (e.g. Blender, Houdini)
