Meta Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The charter of the Graphics Research group within RL-R is to make exceptional consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences targeting five to ten years out.We are developing the future of virtual and augmented reality where we envisioned mobile, lightweight AR/VR devices with very low power consumption. To achieve our vision, we need to be able to generate, transmit and store vast amount of graphics, video, audio and other types of data in an extremely efficient fashion. We are seeking a Research Scientist who specializes in data compression to help us on this journey. This full-time position is responsible for pushing the frontier of graphics compression and streaming. You will work with pioneers in AR/VR technologies inside and outside of Meta and collaborate with experts in both academia and industry. You will also have the opportunity to build end-to-end prototype systems that few researchers have the chance to work on.

Research Scientist - Compression Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement proof-of-concept prototypes that advance the state-of-the-art compression technologies for texture, mesh, point cloud and light field.
  • Work across team boundaries to solve graphics compression problems encountered in both research and products.
  • Collaborate with researchers in academia and the industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Publication records in well recognized journals or conferences.
  • Great communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in related fields (Signal Processing, Information Theory, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, etc.).
  • Experience with MPEG PCC, MPEG-I.
  • Experience in serving as an active member in standardization process (MPEG, AOM).
  • Experience with network-scalable compression and streaming.
