Job Description

At Meta, we’re developing the future of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The RL Design Engineer will work with cross functional and RL product development teams to create best-in-class lab specifications, designs, and standards for a diverse range of specialty spaces including but not limited to gaming studios, reliability and testing labs, computer numerical control (CNC) machines, complex wet chemistry labs and cleanrooms. This role will be the subject matter expert on all types of research & development lab equipment and mechanical, electrical and plumbing integration to create and scale design standards and specifications for RL global expansion.

Research Lab Design Engineer Responsibilities:

• Create RL equipment design specifications and standards for specialty spaces and labs globally
• Oversee capital purchases of lab equipment for new and existing labs to ensure compliance with design specifications and standards while enabling Meta to quickly grow and scale
• Work closely with cross functional teams, business owners and lab teams to continuously improve and update design specifications and standards based on utilization and performance
• Partner with Design and Construction teams to ensure lab equipment is integrated into new and existing site projects
• lab equipment subject matter expert (SME) for RL projects across the globe
• Work with Procurement to develop, implement and manage lab equipment purchasing strategy for new and existing sites to ensure standardized and cost-effective equipment purchases
• Partner closely with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure pollution control and safety are integrated into equipment design specifications and standards globally
  
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience as research and development Lab Design Engineer
• Experience adapting to change, providing support, and guiding communications in a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization
• Experience driving and delivering technical lab projects
• Experience presenting your message to engineers, designers, programmers, operations, vendors
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working within Research & Development, specifically research lab designs
• Experience with EHS requirements in relation to lab building and equipment designs
• Experience supporting a wide range of research lab types
• Experience supporting lab development for research and development of hardware
