In this role as the Programmable Vehicle Model (PVM) Operations you will need a passion for providing a service to multiple teams within Team GM; Advanced Vehicle Development, Advanced Design Studios, Human Factors, Production Studio/Engineering and others as they need to use the unique tool within GM. Your responsibility is to focus on using the Programmable Vehicle Model (PVM) as a tool to work with the initial vehicle package core to Occupant Accommodation. The work is multi-faceted and requires the ability to help teams solve critical engineering problems using the PVM as the tool for quickly identifying solutions.
The PVM is a unique tool that provides a full-size bedplate to allow designers and engineers see first-hand the occupant packages developed with both art and engineering design. The tool has become a prominent part of the initial vehicle development stage due to its ability to provide live changes to dimensions for seating, roof, I/P, Steering Whl, Pedal, etc. during reviews.
The PVM is targeted as a source that provides a platform for both physical and Virtual Reality (VR) reviews in a collaborative fashion, along with the ability to live stream to share reviews globally. This tool is a great opportunity for the person who also enjoys identifying ways to innovate and implement new technology.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible to work with both designers and engineers to demonstrate the physical components or general arrangement of specific occupant packaging environments and understand the variables which are identified for studies or evaluations to confirm engineering details affecting studio surface or occupant integration as defined using the PVM along with VR as required.
Additional Job Description
- Problem solving; understanding/ideating solutions using the PVM to solve/evaluate
- UG NX ; review math, cut sections, light design
- Human Factors; understanding the human interface for occupant accommodation
- Fabrication; cardboard modeling of 3d components as required
- SAE J1100; vehicle interior dimensions/standards for occupant packaging
- SAE J826; Seat check measurement
- Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM); ability to define vehicle grid to measure J1100 dimensions
- Vehicle Architecture/Integration; understanding the basic precepts of the initial development process for occupant accommodation
- Programmable Vehicle Modeling using the tool (PVM); operating the tool for package setups to help teams solve the problems
Requirements
- Previous PVM Experience or an Associates Degree in Engineering or related Fields
- 5 Years of experience in automotive industry; technician, fabrication, design, metrology
- A continuous growth mindset with a curiosity in vehicle design both engineering/studio
- Ability to influence and build relationships across internal teams with external partners
- Highly effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated experience successfully operating in environments with high ambiguity and high levels of personal autonomy
- Able to convey complex findings and supporting data in a clear, concise and engaging manner
- Proactive/ results driven individual with high levels of initiative and leadership capability
- Demonstrated Leadership capability with small teams, as well as the ability to work across organizational structure to achieve synergy
- Strong desire to demonstrate innovative and strategic skills where issues may be ambiguous (ability to be both strategic and tactical)
- Ability to learn, understand, and clearly explain new technologies
