Our Technology Engineering for Devices (TED) team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future Oculus products. From mixed reality and human interaction to natural inputs and beyond, TED is focused on transforming new technologies from early concept to product by iterating, prototyping, and realizing the human value and new experiences these technologies enable. The Depth HW team within TED develops high-performance depth solutions for RL’s AR/VR products. This multidisciplinary group bring research to life by realizing state-of-the-art custom modules including ASIC, lasers, optics, sensors, firmware etc. Depth HW team is seeking a VCSEL Module Engineer for end-to-end ownership of VCSEL modules from initial design to delivery in high volume. This is a central role in realizing module maturity at respective product development milestones by consolidating work of many cross-functional partners. Example cross-functional teams include architecture, optical, electrical, mechanical, process, test, firmware, components, module vendor, operations, quality, reliability, product design etc.

VCSEL Engineer (University Grad) Responsibilities:

  • Development of VCSEL custom design for Depth sensing systems.
  • Coordinating with VCSEL manufacturing vendors.
  • Collaboration with EE/ME/PD and characterization teams in a 3D sensing group.
  • Driving a new VCSEL NTI technology development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with VCSEL design, fabrication, and characterization.
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Master degree in Electrical or Optical engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Familiarity with VCSEL Die design , Near and Far fields characterization tests.
  • Familiarity with understanding of VCSEL electro-optical physics.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Electrical or Optical engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience in custom VCSEL design, Production process, test and equipment development knowledge in consumer electronics space.
  • Manufacturing processes and process knowledge of high-production volume modules.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
