Research Scientist, Eye Tracking Systems

Employer

Job Description

At Reality Labs Research (RLR), our goal is to make great consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences that ship in five to ten years. Come work alongside world leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. We are currently seeking accomplished researchers with experience designing, modeling, and prototyping advanced eye tracking systems based on optical scanning. We are looking for innovators and systems thinkers that challenge long-standing assumptions to discover true solutions to complex problems.

Research Scientist, Eye Tracking Systems Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of computer vision, machine learning, optics, materials science, and ME/EE researchers toward a common goal
  • Drive design and development of eye imaging or tracking systems, with an emphasis on optical-scanning based solutions
  • Research novel sensor architectures that deliver high signal-to-noise with very low power and conspicuity
  • Own the strategy, design, and implementation of prototypes that test hypotheses in the fastest way possible
  • Develop prototypes ranging from simple bench-top units to complicated wearable platforms incorporating cutting-edge embedded technologies
  • Find the learning in every experiment and effectively share with the broader team
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop new sensing technologies from the ground up
  • Expected 50% or more time in the lab building your vision of the future

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years experience working with optical sensing systems
  • Experience balancing theory and application in embedded sensor applications
  • 3+ years experience with FPGAs and/or microcontroller programming for sensing and control applications
  • 3+ years of experience with computer vision based motion tracking
  • 3+ years of experience with MATLAB, Python, or a similar language for data analysis and processing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 5+ years lab experience, Masters with 10+ years experience or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of systems programming experience
  • Deep understanding of camera calibration, ray optics, and/or diffractive optics
  • 3+ years experience working with calibration and closed loop control of optical scanning systems
  • Background in control theory and/or sensor fusion
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Altium, ray tracing (Zemax and/or CodeV)
