Copyeditor, Android Central

Employer

Job Description

Description

Android Central is the home of Android for Everyone. But it’s more than that — Android Central hosts news, reviews, how-to guides, and buying guides across a variety of topics, from Android smartphones to wearables to tablets, health and fitness tech to smart home, and AR/VR to mobile gaming.

The ideal Copy Editor for AndroidCentral.com is someone who takes pride in their attention to detail. The job is crucial to maintaining quality standards across the site, and the copy editor (or “duty editor” as we also refer to it) is the final person to check and see all scheduled content before it goes live on the web.

Ideally, you will have some experience in a dedicated copy editing role, and a general knowledge of consumer tech is also required. Knowledge and familiarity with the Android and Google ecosystems is a plus but not required.

You must be able to work closely with writers and editors, to not only ensure they’re adhering to editorial processes and standards but also to ensure they understand any mistakes they make so they don’t make them again. And because Android Central is a modern, agile organization, those processes often evolve and change, so the ability to embrace change is a must.

Android Central and its sister sites are entirely remote work environments, so you will need to be an effective communicator. The ideal candidate is familiar with modern tools and best practices for effective remote working as we operate in a hybrid set-up, with days split between the office and home.

Experience working remotely is a plus.

Key responsibilities:
  • Edit and correct all scheduled content for the following day, and ensure all changes are made and stories are scheduled on time.
  • Edit content to ensure it follows template and style guidelines.
  • Work with writers and editors to make necessary corrections to stories and explain corrections.
  • Help copy chief communicate new procedural changes and evolutions to writers and enforce changes.
  • Write timely, news-based features and op-eds around trending topics if needed

Requirements
  • Experience within a copy editing role within the past few years.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Personally motivated and able to perform at a high level remotely.
