Job Description
Hello! We are Virtual Field (https://virtualfield.io). We make virtual reality (VR) based medical devices for ophthalmologists (eye doctors) and optometrists.
We are a profitable company and are bootstrapped (no VC capital). We are currently the market leader (by a wide margin) in the VR clinical vision diagnostics space and have contracts with major hospitals and eye care providers around the country.
We are hiring our first REMOTE Technical Product Manager. Your role will be to work closely with engineers and designers to scope out and implement features on our website.
Who are we?
- Nine person company split between eng and sales/support/logistics
- “Headquartered” in NYC but with team members working remotely across the country
- Engineers from top universities, Google, and VC backed startups
- Market leader in our space
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, design, or 3 years of equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of technical product management experience at a software technology company.
- Experience scoping out software projects, working closely with designers and engineers, and talking to customers.
- Eye for detail VERY important.
Who are you?
- You like working from home!
- You have a background (work experience or a degree) in either design or engineering.
- You have experience managing web and/or hardware products.
- You like taking large product ideas, researching and understanding them, and then breaking them down into component tasks for engineers to implement.
- You love using tools like Figma and Sketch to wireframe your ideas and see them brought to life by designers and engineers.
- You love reaching out to both happy and unhappy customers and figuring out what needs to be built to make sure the next customer is even happier.
What will the job look like?
- Company is operated by an engineer and is geared toward remote work with high expectations, minimal meetings, and a lot of building.
- IMPORTANT: We expect you to work a 7-8 hour day on weekdays — no more, no less. There is no on-call rotation and we don't work overtime. However, we DO expect you to be online and working for 7-8 hours a day.
- Other than a brief planning meeting on Monday (20-30 minutes) and our 10 minute daily standup, you'll be doing product research, coordinating with engineers, or doing customer research.
- You’ll be expected to speak with happy and unhappy customers on a regular basis to understand their desires and see those improvements added to our product (we have a dedicated support team, but you will be expected to speak with customers regularly to make product improvements).
- We'll provide you with a Macbook Pro and VR headset for work.
Our comp package:
- $100k/year salary
- Health and dental insurance coverage
- Company contribution toward health insurance
- 2-3 weeks of vacation — it's pretty flexible and we don't keep track right now
- Yearly comp eval (January)
- We don’t currently offer a 401k plan but may create one in the future
- We don't do bonuses, preferring instead to do annual performance based salary increases
- We aren't VC backed and don't do options grants. We want to compensate you well with cash and retain you with cash as well. I don't know when/if we'll exit and I don't want to promise you a big pay day that may not happen.
