OVERVIEW

The Barstow School is seeking the inaugural Computer Science Facilitator at IDEA Space KC to complete the full time staff building and teaching STEAM curriculum to students and teachers across the Kansas City area, growing their comfort and confidence in STEAM-related fields.  The facilitator’s time is split as follows:

Curriculum Development -- 15%

Curriculum Delivery -- 40%

Teacher Professional Development 20%

Supplies and equipment oversight -- 25%


DUTIES

Curriculum Development and Delivery 

  • Review existing courses and update as needed, specifically in robotics, coding, VR, cyber security and eSports
  • Propose new courses aligned to career development pathways and Workplace Agilities 
  • Teach co-curricular courses
  • Supervise contract teachers and teaching assistant for evening, weekend and summer courses
  • Plan and implement teacher professional development experiences
  • Develop and implement safety protocols as needed
  • Some evenings and weekends required


Supplies and equipment oversight

  • Provide regular maintenance and update of IDEA Space technology equipment including 
  • Desktop PC computers (15)
  • Laptop Mac Computers (20)
  • iPads (40)
  • Robotics equipment (Vex, FRC, FLL)
  • VR (8 headsets, 1 360 camera)
  • Maintain service records and warranty information for technology equipment
  • Submit and track all technology help desk requests
  • In conjunction with Technology Support Department conduct period equipment updates 


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a growth mindset
  • Undergraduate degree or comparable skills and knowledge in education, computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, cybersecurity, esports, or a related field
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for STEAM learning 
  • Respect and appreciation for the needs and potential of diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds
  • Student centered educational philosophy
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with K-12 learners
  • Experience with:Design thinking, block, python, java and app development coding with elementary, middle and high school students, and teachers at all levels, First Robotics, VEX Robotics, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, cybersecurity, curriculum development
