General Summary

Join the Corporate Research & Development (CR&D) Circuit Research Team at Qualcomm to explore and prototype novel circuit technologies for improving the performance, energy efficiency, reliability, and competitiveness of Qualcomm processor products, spanning CPUs, GPUs, neural signal processors (NSPs), and modems across a wide range of SoCs for IoT, mobile, laptop, automotive, and datacenter products.

With Qualcomm’s expanding product portfolio, including SoCs for virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR), machine learning (ML) processors for the datacenter, and automotive SoCs, new challenges and opportunities emerge to deliver industry-leading performance, energy efficiency, and reliability. Collaborate with product hardware and software teams to identify these key challenges and opportunities. Research and develop novel circuit solutions to provide a competitive advantage for Qualcomm. Demonstrate circuit techniques via test-chip implementation and testing, and then work with product teams to integrate the solutions into future Qualcomm processors. Examples may include low-power designs, variation-tolerant circuits such as adaptive and resilient designs, power-management circuits such as digital sensors and voltage regulators, ML circuit techniques, and security circuits.

Responsibilities Include
  • Researching and developing solutions to complex problems.
  • Implementing designs in test chips and testing the designs to assess the viability.
  • Collaborating with product teams to identify challenges and opportunities and to transfer new technologies into production processors.
  • Participating in IEEE conferences to stay informed of the state-of-the-art designs and observe key technology trends.
  • Mentoring and/or collaborating with university research projects.
  • Specific circuit design tasks include creating custom analog and/or digital circuits via schematic entry, layout, simulation, and optimization, generating high-level digital designs via RTL, synthesis, and timing analysis, silicon testing and debug, coding scripts for design implementation and testing, and generating documentation.

Ideal Candidates Will Demonstrate The Following

Seeking individuals with a strong desire and track-record for performing high-value circuit research and development to benefit future processor products. Requires deep understanding of devices and circuits in advanced technology nodes. Experience with circuit designs that satisfy the automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) risk classifications for automotive processors is a plus. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively collaborate across local and global teams.

Recent PhD graduate in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering (ECE) with an internship in circuit design research or an MS ECE graduate with 3-5 years of experience in circuit design research.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.
  • Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.
  • Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
  • Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
  • Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
