About The Job
In this role, you will work with optical designers, hardware engineers, and process engineers to develop light manipulating materials that put information where users need it. You'll design and manage tests that quantitatively evaluate different material solutions. You will collaborate internally and externally to develop matrices, identify and execute on fabrication paths, analyze the results, and communicate them to stakeholders.
The Google Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality team is a group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and prototyping helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.
Responsibilities
- Leverage knowledge of materials to collaborate with optical designers and determine the material properties and processes needed to achieve optical and mechanical performance requirements.
- Lead efforts for data-driven materials evaluation, determine evaluation criteria that align to the functional need, identify sourcing paths for samples, and analyze and synthesize data.
- Develop project plans and milestones for material development and coordinate plans across the component team.
- Educate the team and leadership on the functional performance options offered by different materials and processes.
