The Technology Development Group is seeking an engineer to help architect and implement networking frameworks and APIs for AR/VR platforms. This engineer will enhance the capabilities and performance of AR/VR systems through the development of compute offload, distributed systems, and a broad range of applications, including machine learning, computer vision, and multimedia processing.
Experience developing software frameworks and APIs
Solid understanding of distributed systems and code that spans beyond one device
Track record of mobile device / embedded development
Experience writing daemons and/or multi-threaded software
Knowledgable about network protocols and frameworks (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, QUIC)
Knowledgable about system level programming concepts
Strong command of object-oriented programming (C / C++ / Obj-C / Swift preferred)
Excellent communication and presentation skills
We are a team of architects and specialists who are looking for an individual to help build frameworks to enable a new class of networked services and applications. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in addition to an interest in creating foundational frameworks and APIs. You should be comfortable participating in architecture discussions, taking ownership of specific problem areas, articulating design choices, and delivering highly optimized code in performance-critical environments.
Networking, distributed systems, and developing with system power and performance in mind will be central to this role. You should be capable of balancing system tradeoffs such as power, latency, and compute, while ensuring maximum privacy, security, and user experience. Interest or experience in machine learning, computer vision, multimedia, or AR/VR technologies is preferred.
In addition to work on framework development, this role also offers the unique opportunity to prototype new networked services and applications, as well as help develop and on-board services built by other teams across Apple. This role is very cross functional in nature, making excellent interpersonal and communication skills vital to success.
