Terran Orbital Corporation is seeking a
Manufacturing and Augmented Reality Engineer to join our Technology team.
As
Manufacturing and Augmented Reality Engineer, you will report to the Automation Chief Engineer and will be responsible for supporting the development of assembly procedures, as well as for all engineering and implementation augmented reality (AR) systems to scale manufacturing and training to meet the business growth needs. You will be working with all stakeholders in the Technology, Operations and Engineering organizations. The candidate will have a strong familiarity with the products being manufactured by supporting the engineering team in the development of assembly procedures. The candidate will also be responsible for the full life cycle of augmented reality systems, from identification of applications for the use of AR, selecting wearable hardware solutions, implementation of programming of AR solutions, initial prototyping, and final implementation across operations for training and assembly. The candidate will also work side-by-side with the operations team during assembly to refine the AR solutions over time.
Terran Orbital specializes in the development of technologies optimized to enable state-of-the-art comprehensive spacecraft & mission solutions. Terran Orbital’s multidisciplinary staff is responsible for end-to-end development cycles encompassing design, analysis, production, test and operational support of space systems, including large constellations of small satellites.
Essential duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with the Engineering organization to support development of hardware assembly procedures. Must be able to read and interpret electronic and/or mechanical assembly drawings to define assembly procedures.
- Ability to read and follow engineering specifications
- Ability to develop productions work instructions
- Work with the Technology, Operations and Engineering organizations to identify opportunities for AR in training and guiding assembly of our modules and satellites.
- Develop requirements for AR systems for training and guiding assembly
- Trade off alternative AR hardware solutions
- Develop software on the chosen AR platform to implement assembly procedures, including all necessary visualizations and instructions.
- Implementation of AR solutions from prototyping to final deployment in the factory
- Participate in production life cycle stages of different products and iteratively improve AR solutions to guide assembly
- Familiarity with quality processes for root cause determination and corrective actions
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Science disciplines
- 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, particularly the development of assembly procedures
- 5+ years of relevant experience in augmented reality systems, including programming
- Proficient in Windows M and/or Android development
- Proficiency with 3D math including linear algebra
- Hands-on experience in hardware assembly (wiring, torquing, epoxy bonding, etc.)
- Self-motivated and able to work quickly and effectively starting with only high-level objectives
- Ability to interface with the other engineers and the production teams to understand the products and the opportunities for implementation of AR for training and guiding assembly
- High attention to detail; ability to preempt design/manufacturing issues.
Desired Skills/Experience
- Experience in aerospace, automotive or other serial manufacturing applications implementing AR solutions
