Job Description
At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to advance the state of wearable interaction devices as part of a multidisciplinary research team. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in leading R&D projects to advance technology and prepare it for productization and who can work with a team of researchers who are experts in haptics, psychophysics, silicon packaging, textiles, and elastomers. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
- Understand projects in research portfolio, communicate the value and technical feasibility of the relevant research portfolio, and collaborate to instigate new projects.
- Partner with research, hardware engineering, and design teams to create material, component, system, and subsystem requirements. Maintain stable hardware system metrics and drive/influence precursor projects to quantify performance tradeoffs.
- Guide management on long-term technology investments.
- Organize the development of DOE vehicles, Non-Form Factor and demonstration prototypes on the path to the architectural definition.
- BS in Systems, Mechanical, Process Engineering, other related technical field or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of product development experience with demonstration of using novel manufacturing technologies.
- Experience leading technology development projects through internal and external partners.
- Experience influencing R&D strategy by managing a technology portfolio.
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
- Expertise in system definition and analysis tools such as Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).
- Experience driving development of multiple novel consumer electronics products throughout the complete product development cycle.
- Program management experience. Track record of owning scope/schedule/quality/cost for product/subsystems through every stage of the product development process and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high precision assemblies with high quality cosmetic requirements.
- 2+ years experience working with technical soft goods.
