Job Description
Reality Labs (RL) Research brings together a world-class team of researchers and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. And just as personal computers have done over the past 45 years, AR and VR will ultimately change everything about how we work, play, and connect. The RL Research Audio team aims to fundamentally transform the human experience through audio innovation. We are creating virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality and redefining human hearing. We research and invent technologies related to sound capture, acoustic scene understanding, psychoacoustics, hearing, sound propagation, audio rendering, the hardware breakthroughs necessary to power these technologies, and much more. The discoveries we make inform immersive and ubiquitous AR and VR products across Facebook, supporting meaningful connections to the world and people across AR, mobile, VR, wearable devices, and beyond. We’re seeking a Visiting Researcher with expertise in the fields of spatial audio, 3D sound capture and binaural reproduction, for a short time assignment to drive our research into new unexplored areas.
- Develop novel algorithms and signal processing techniques to solve complex acoustic research problems in the field of spatial audio, 3D sound capture and binaural reproduction.
- Develop perceptually-relevant error metric for spatial audio quality.
- Design, execution, and results analysis of perceptual studies.
- Establish long-term roadmap for the development of that break new ground and define research areas at the intersection of spatial audio, 3D sound capture and binaural reproduction.
- Collaborate with the larger RL Research team and provide creative leadership on cross-team technologies.
- PhD in the field of Applied Mathematics, Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- 10+ years experience with working on algorithm development, and signal processing techniques for spatial audio.
- Demonstrated experience developing novel signal processing algorithms.
- Demonstrated experience designing perceptual studies to evaluate spatial audio performance.
- 10+ years experience in programming in C++, MATLAB, or Python.
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
