About This Position
HaptX is looking for engineers with a large appetite for learning and advancing technologies to continue the companies leading position in haptic systems. The Mechanical Engineer (prototype) works within the R&D team and is responsible for the development and testing of early-stage prototypes for concept validation and incorporation into the next set of HaptX products. HaptX is a fast-paced start up seeking individuals with aptitude in multiple disciplines including electronics, programming, mathematical modeling, design, and assembly. Qualified candidates must be able to adapt to change and manage competing priorities. You will be contributing and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary engineering team extending the capabilities of HaptX products and expanding the reach of high-fidelity haptic experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical design of systems and components using SolidWorks
- Creating prototypes with in-house and outsourced machine shops for fabrication and assembly
- Build and troubleshoot prototypes as well as iteratively improve existing product designs
- Design, program, modify, and assemble testing jigs, conduct experiments, and analyze data
- Work with multidisciplinary team and other stakeholders to conceptualize, define, design, build, and test new products
- Analyze data from tests with appropriate software packages, including excel, R, python, and MATLAB
- Work with manufacturing partners domestically and globally, travel to manufacturing sites when needed
- Communicate design concepts, ideas, and progress through documentations and presentations to a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers
- Ensure quality throughout the design, test, and manufacture of HaptX products
- Develop mathematical models for analysis and validation
- Be adaptable, seek out create solutions and thrive in a rapidly evolving environment with minimal supervision
Required Qualifications
- 5 – 8 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in a professional setting
- Experience writing MATLAB, Python, or C/C++ to run experiments and data processing
- Experience developing controls systems, such as PLC or Arduino
- Experience with electrical, mechanical, and P&ID drawings
- Experience with FEA and CFD packages
- Experience with SOLIDWORKS or similar 3D CAD system
- Strong background in fluidic analysis, vibrations, and dynamics
- Experience with pneumatic equipment, including transmitters, valves, and regulators
- Experience with electrical designs and integrating electronic components
- Experience with design of experiments (DoE) for mechanical, mechatronic, and control systems
- Familiarity with different plastics manufacturing processes, machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- You are a team player with a friendly, positive attitude. You are comfortable wearing multiple hats and have genuine willingness to help out where help is needed
- Humble, coachable, eager to learn and grow from feedback
- Travel between offices and demo trip is required (up to 10% percent)
