At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The FRL CTRL team grew out of the acquisition of CTRL-labs in 2019. We are developing noninvasive neuromotor input technology based on electromyography (EMG), aimed at giving users unparalleled control in AR/VR. We build the hardware, software, and interactions which bring this cutting edge and impactful technology to life.In this role you will support a talented team of engineers and researchers working on fundamental neuromotor interactions which will form the basis of future AR/VR platforms. You will help us ensure that we provide deep value to users by taking advantage of the unique properties of neural interfaces. More broadly you will collaborate with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and user researchers with access to advanced technology, resources, and testing facilities. Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers and researchers working forward-looking interactions that are uniquely enabled by neural interface technology
- Collaborate with neuroscientists, machine learning experts and user researchers to unlock and perfect new capabilities to build interactions upon
- Engage with partner teams and communicate cross-functionally to drive research and engineering efforts
- Create career development plans, manage performance, and conduct performance reviews
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with research, engineering, and management teams
- Help the team scale effectively: identify, recruit, interview, and hire new engineers
Minimum Qualification
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- 5+ years of experience creating real time software, such as games, robotics, or input devices
- 5+ years managing teams in a research environment, including recruiting, hands on technical leadership, and performance management
- BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with input devices such as touch screens, game controllers, or prototypes
- Experience with Unity, Unreal, or equivalent 3D game engine
- Experience with Python/NumPy/Jupyter
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript/React
- Familiarity with real time signal processing: filtering, smoothing, debouncing, etc.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms
