The AR/VR team at Facebook is developing future products in augmented reality and virtual reality with breakthrough work in computer vision, and machine learning that will enable groundbreaking experiences for consumers and businesses. From mixed reality and human interaction to natural inputs and beyond, XR Tech is focused on taking new technologies from early concept to the product level while iterating, prototyping, and realizing the human value and new experiences they open up. As the TPM Manager, XR Tech Foundations, Software in Facebook Reality Labs, you will be managing and growing an existing team of TPMs to help build data systems, platform libraries and cloud systems for Computer Vision and Machine Learning technology projects towards future AR/VR products. The technology will enable all-day wearable always-on XR devices to have spatially aware, contextual, and collaborative XR experiences that are immersive and integrated into the physical world. The right candidate will possess a strong technical program management background, have experience in building platforms & tooling, will have demonstrated experience leading large projects across multiple software teams, as well as building and growing teams. You will have a well-rounded technical background. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to manage the team, develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for people management of an organization - hiring, developing and implementing organizational structure, delivering performance reviews, providing continual feedback, coaching and career growth for direct reports.
- Articulate the technology, requirements, goals and milestones of your team.
- Work with engineering and product management leadership to define and revise the long-term strategy for the AR software organization.
- Work with the team to develop end-to-end project plans, influence teams to deliver against them, and keep the org and leadership informed on progress.
- Perform risk management and change management on projects.
- Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions.
- Work with teams to set milestones, communicate project statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks.
- Work with engineering to ensure what we build has the right balance of cost vs. benefit, and focuses on addressing the highest priority partner team and customer needs.
Minimum Qualification
- 2+ years of experience with building and managing a team of Technical Program Managers.
- 8+ years of experience in technical program management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in growing organizations and developing a team culture.
- Communication and interpersonal experience, including relationship building and collaboration within a cross-functional team.
- Knowledge of software development processes and best practices.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of software engineers and hardware engineers.
- Experience building SW platforms and tooling.
- Experience with machine learning, computer vision or cutting edge research to data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of coaching and mentoring in a flexible environment.
