We are building this future through the Perception Platform - a set of machine perception services and the essential technologies that power them, on which developers can build innovative and engaging augmented and virtual reality experiences and applications. The Perception Platform span across the following domains:Mixed Reality - Seamlessly blend the virtual and physical worlds through spatial AI services.People - Digital representations and self-expression of humans through avatars and holograms.Inputs - Enable users to naturally and intuitively interact with digital and physical objects in AR and VR.Capture - Save moments and recreate memories as richly as possible through the power of AI. Render - Life-like visual and auditory sensory immersion experiences through the usage of spatialized audio, super-hearing and advanced video and graphics techniques.The XR Tech team works to understand and predict product needs on a 5+ year horizon, incubate and invest in new technical innovations (NTI), while also working to bring mature innovations into shipping products via new product integrations (NPI).We are seeking a dynamic leader to join us as an Engineering Director leading the development of platform software and toolkits for XR Tech’s Perception Platform. The Engineering Director will define and pioneer the future of the software platform including engaging first and third party experiences and creating a platform which empowers creators and developers to deliver rich immersive experiences. This leader will succeed through collaboration and shared strategies across Facebook Reality Labs teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead software platform development efforts across multiple projects, base-platforms, and disciplines
• Ensure the successful definition, architecture, design, implementation, and timely delivery of the software platform
• Partner closely with research and technology teams to build, develop and harden new and nascent concepts and technologies to the market
• Manage a complex portfolio of platform capabilities spanning from new research to mature in-market platform capabilities
• Provide deep technical leadership for all AR and VR hardware and software products
• Work cross-functionally with partner technology and business teams to get hardware and software products developed and shipped
• Collaborate with FRL leadership to define future products and product enhancements
• Build, manage, mentor, inspire and retain software engineering teams
• Grow the organization and ensure that the right culture, processes, and technology investments are in place for future product launches
  

Minimum Qualification

• 10+ years of relevant experience in advanced technology management as a software leader building large scale teams and leading organizations through product delivery and commercialization
• Experience working on research or incubation of new technology domains as well as on a team trying to ship products on an aggressive timeline, and deeply understands the approaches and challenges of both camps
• Experience leading, building, mentoring and inspiring a large consumer technology software organization
• Hands-on leader with experience going into the details for software architecture and design
• Technical experience and understanding of how full-stack solutions fit together
• Proven communicator and visionary, with demonstrated success crafting clear narratives for complex technical areas which excite the imagination, align energies, and create a clear course of action
• Experience as a collaborator, experience building models & processes for aligning work across large teams, experience building the relationships needed to cut through obstacles and quickly resolve problems
