At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Test Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to work with a broad range of multidisciplinary research to advance the state of the art of AR/VR experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience leading cross-disciplinary teams to develop novel testing protocols and architecture testing systems. The candidate will leverage internal and external resources in the design and development of test fixtures, specification of equipment, documentation of test plans, and execution of tests for a variety of electro-mechanical systems and materials. The candidate should be able to take novel ideas and develop measurable metrics to control component and assembly function and quality. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead cross-functional teams consisting of Research Scientists and Hardware Engineers and own the component and system level verification testing for research hardware
  • Design, develop, and validate test setups including mechanical, electrical, and software systems
  • Manage internal and external resources to execute on test setup development and conduct tests
  • Partner with multiple design teams and deliver well-documented test results on a reliable schedule
Minimum Qualification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or other related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience developing novel testing methods and architecting test equipment for small form factor, electromechanical consumer electronics
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams to define testing requirements and metrics to drive maturity of research grade hardware
  • 5+ years experience with Python, MATLAB, or equivalent
Preferred Qualification
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical data analysis and conducting measurement system analysis
  • 5+ years experience with 3D CAD design modeling (NX, SolidWorks)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes and experience with assembly of electro-mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated experience specifying and integrating instrumentation and motion control systems (motors, drivers, encoders, pressure transducers, accelerometers, flow sensors)
