Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL-R) brings together a world-class team of diverse and highly interdisciplinary researchers, hardware and software developers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality. Our team is building optical software simulation technology that will power the AR/VR experiments of the future.In this role, you’ll foster our scientific explorations and generate viable paths to the consumer products that will connect people in meaningful ways for decades to come. You’ll work closely with research scientists and backend infrastructure specialists to build and deploy technology for prototyping and experimentation.Our team is comfortable with ambiguity, nurtures a sense of ownership, and enjoys an honest and considerate environment. Responsibilities
- Integrate, debug, and test various research technologies for evaluating cutting-edge AR/VR lenses and related optics, such as optical simulators
- Collaborate in a diverse team environment with research scientists and software engineers to bridge the gap between research needs and Facebook technologies, such as deploying optical simulations to compute clusters. Help make informed architectural tradeoffs and rapidly deliver software solutions
- Work side by side with research scientists to understand their software tool pain points, prioritize solutions and create the systems and tools that turbocharge their work
- Coordinate with infrastructure and tools teams across Facebook to evaluate and integrate with internal systems
- Create robust interfaces, tools and data pipelines that allow research scientists to rapidly investigate different optical approaches
- Write clean readable code, debug complex problems that span systems, understand priorities and fulfill project needs efficiently
- Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving
Minimum Qualification
- BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years Python experience
- 3+ years C/C++ experience, including C++11 (and up) features and principles
Preferred Qualification
- Experience deploying solutions to compute infrastructure such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience in web programming
- Experience in virtualization and software containerization (e.g., VMWare, Docker)
- Experience with Optical Science
- Experience with image processing
- Experience with Facebook infrastructure systems
