Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.
Facebook Reality Labs Research is looking for motivated researchers to help create the next generation of virtual reality. Our research focuses on finding comprehensive solutions to complex tracking problems, delivering novel technologies and algorithms fundamental to future VR systems. You’ll have a unique opportunity to collaborate with industry-leading researchers and engineers who are defining the future of VR and AR.As an Applied Research Scientist, you will bring eye tracking research initiatives from paper analysis to full proof-of-concept platforms. We welcome candidates who strive for a deep understanding of complex systems and who harbor a strong desire to push beyond state-of-the-art. Ideal candidates are expected to model expected performance of novel scanning optical systems primarily using micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) mirrors, validate these models through rapid prototypes and benchtop systems, collaborate with cross-disciplinary peers to understand practical limits of these architectures with off-the-shelf or custom components. They are comfortable assembling virtual teams and/or establishing external partnerships to work past these limits.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and validate scanning optical systems using MEMS mirrors
- Conduct design reviews based on fundamental analysis and understanding of sensor and/or actuator architectures that utilize MEMS devices from first principles to performance metrics
- Communication and documentation of research agenda, progress and results
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers across diverse disciplines
- Engage with vendors and industry partners as needed to advance the research program
Minimum Qualification
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Robotics, or a related STEM field or equivalent experience
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- Track record of research results as demonstrated in accepted papers at scientific journals and conferences
- Demonstrated experience integrating MEMS devices in sensor and/or actuator architectures
- 3+ years of experience working in industry setting
- 3+ years of experience of electromechanical characterization of MEMS devices
- 2+ years of experience with a programming or scripting language such as MATLAB or Python for data acquisition and analysis
- 3+ years of experience working on inter-disciplinary projects
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with design and characterization of optical sensing and/or imaging systems
