As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Product Design Engineering team at Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), you will help design solutions for next generation virtual reality products. You will explore and refine a range of designs through iterative prototyping and collaboration, developing a deep understanding of the product design process. We are looking for an inquisitive learner with strong communication skills who will apply mechanical engineering principles to problem solve in creative, insightful ways.
Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Driving, prototyping, and validating a project in the VR hardware space
- Apply rigorous engineering techniques to solve challenging design problems
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to generate concepts and detailed designs
Minimum Qualification
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors or Masters in mechanical engineering, or related field
- Experience with various rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting)
- Experience using 3D CAD
- Proficiency in testing & evaluating mechanical designs
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualification
- Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
- Design analysis capability (FEA / Simulation skills)
- Specific 3D CAD experience using Siemens NX
- Experience in consumer electronic product design field
