At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate, and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to support peripheral neural interface research and development that lies at the intersection of computational neuroscience, machine learning, signal processing, statistics, biophysics, and human-computer interaction. We seek people who want to shape the future of this technology and are excited about joining our neuromotor research team, whose mission is to create the future of input and interaction for AR and VR. The Technical Program Manager will work with a team of talented research scientists and engineers to develop, implement, and track an applied neuromotor interface research roadmap. The ideal candidate will possess experience in relevant technical domains of neuroscience or engineering, a strong technical program management or product management background, and experience working with multi-disciplinary research teams. We seek candidates who are self-motivated and able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment with ambiguity and competing priorities. Candidates should be able to manage research programs, develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, and roll up their sleeves, dig in, and get the job done.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with scientists to identify, define, and pursue high priority research programs to advance non-invasive neural interface technology.
- Foster innovation and prioritize across specific opportunities to enable development of a best-in-class neural interface.
- Elevate execution quality of research through high-level strategic planning and tracking of milestone progress with research partners.
- Work across cross-functional partners (hardware engineering, research science, and software engineering) to identify program scope, constraints, dependencies, risks, and timelines.
- Communicate clearly and regularly across internal and external programs, bringing key updates to leadership.
- Work with teams to set milestones, communicate project statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks.
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline.
- 4+ years of experience in research, software engineering, technical program management, new product development, or product management.
- Experience applying communication, coordination, and organizational skills to guide project prioritization, milestones, and deliverables.
- Experience applying interpersonal skills to build collaborations and relationships with a diverse, cross-functional team.
- Experience working in a research or project/program management capacity in neuroscience, another life sciences field, computer science, engineering, or AI/ML.
Preferred Qualification
- Familiarity with one or more of the following domains: bio-sensing, electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), neuroscience, Human Computer Interactions (HCI), human factors research, wearable technologies.
- PhD in neuroscience, computer science, or another life sciences or related engineering field.
- Experience with machine learning methods, including ML deployment or productization processes.
- Experience delivering research programs or products from inception to delivery.
- Experience in academic sponsored research or grant management programs.
