Job Description

Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.

The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) Sensors Team is helping build novel products in Augmented and Virtual Reality. Facebook AR/VR research in Motion Sensing Hardware is driving the state-of-the-art forward through relentless innovation. Our team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future AR/VR products at Facebook.

Our team is looking for candidates with expertise in Microelectromechanical System (MEMS) design, simulation, fabrication, instrumentation and characterization to help with the development of novel sensor architectures, while collaborating with experts across multiple domains.

Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across both hardware and research teams at Facebook to develop MEMS sensors that advance the state-of-the-art
  • Deliver physics-based modeling, simulation, and analysis in support of the development and integration of high-performance sensors for AR/VR systems and wearables
  • Work with the team on instrumentation and characterization of MEMS devices
  • Design novel MEMS sensors and systems for integration into next-generation AR/VR products
Minimum Qualification
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in ME, EE or related field with a focus on Microelectromechanical Systems
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Experience with conventional MEMS design and fabrication techniques for at least one relevant sensor including PMUT, CMUT, microphone, accelerometer, or gyroscope
  • Hands on experience working with Finite Element (FEM) simulation software such as COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar software
Preferred Qualification
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
  • Strong background working with piezoelectric or piezoresistive MEMS devices
  • Hands on experience with MEMS sensor integration, electronics and PCB/ASIC design
  • Familiarity with analog and digital signal processing algorithms and concepts
