The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is a world leader in the design of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems. The FRL Motion Sensing Team gathers world class expertise to drive the development and integration of new, cutting-edge Motion Sensing technologies that impact the entire AR/VR product portfolio.

Our team is looking for an intern candidates with strong electronics, embedded software (firmware), characterization, and debugging experience to help with the development and implementation of novel sensing technologies, while collaborating with domain experts across the FRL organization.

Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long, and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across the FRL organization to help develop novel sensing platforms for AR/VR and wearable platforms
  • Deliver software (firmware) and hardware that enables the integration of high-performance sensors into AR/VR systems and wearables
  • Develop novel algorithms that enable breakthrough sensing capabilities and performance
Minimum Qualification
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, an MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Hands-on experience working with analog and digital circuit design, validation, and debug
  • Experience developing low-level, embedded firmware for ARM-based processors
  • Proficiency in using benchtop equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualification
  • Strong background in embedded architecture and firmware development
  • Proficient developing firmware in low-level languages such as C and C++
  • Hands-on experience developing drivers for and debugging common communication protocols such as I2C, I3C, SPI, UWB, WiFi, etc.
  • Experience in development, integration and/or validation of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors and actuators
  • Familiarity with Linux, Unix, and/or Android system software
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving skills
