At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware systems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Program Manager to join our team, whose mission is creating the future of input and interaction for AR and VR. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience as a technical program manager in a hardware or materials science lab setting, working across domains and with external partners to create entirely new research programs and drive them to successful execution. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.To be successful, you will be eliminating barriers to your team's success, clearly communicating results to all stakeholders and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues. Ideal team members are adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient.
Responsibilities
- Work with research and engineering teams to define and deliver technical solutions for new to the world materials and systems
- Identify and communicate program requirements, scope, constraints, dependencies, and risks
- Provide key stakeholders with full visibility of the program schedule, progress and potential roadblocks
- Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage risk
- Ensure that the information your team needs is complete, current, accurate, and accessible
- Coordinate communication between internal and external teams, vendors and partners
- Manage projects with suppliers and partners from drafting statement of work to final deliverables in collaboration with support functions such as Business Development, Legal, and Procurement
- Establish best practices and refine processes for better communication and positive outcomes
- Cross disciplinary communication of hardware, software and electrical system requirements
Minimum Qualification
- B.S. in a technical discipline (hardware engineering, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics or similar field), or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in any of these areas: hardware supply chain, materials science, lab management, hardware or electrical engineer, battery technologies, consumer product development
- Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products
- Analytical and problem-solving experience with systems as well as organizational, coordination, and multi-tasking experience
- Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones
Preferred Qualification
- M.S. in a related technical discipline (hardware engineering, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics or similar field), or equivalent experience
- Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, software engineers and hardware engineers
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in research and manufacturing, process engineering, materials science and engineering
- Track record of transitioning immature or emerging technologies into consumer products
- Experience in energy materials and devices and their related fabrication technologies such as batteries, energy harvesters, power management circuits and systems, methods of manufacture, or related topics
