General Motors (GM) is seeking an Immersive Technology Designer with strong technical skills and interest in working on a wide range of projects. As the Immersive Technology Designer and pivotal team member of the GM Immersive Technology Team you will work in a greenfield role. We're designing, developing, and delivering a completely new Virtual Reality experience at GM. You will have a broad impact across the various projects and GM: acting at the forefront to bring graphics and computer vision research into reality, building and iterating on experiential prototypes, developing new effects and visualizations in concert with our Studio Designers, Engineers, and Managers, optimizing rendering performance on a range of platforms, and defining cross-company standards for 3D assets. You will apply your skills in an environment to take ownership over the digital asset creation and frontend development of mixed reality applications.

You'll be a great fit for this role if you think of yourself as an entrepreneurial and creative design engineer. You're comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that's higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems at scale. You thrive in a highly collaborative environment working on the edge of art and science in creating visually realistic, performant, and interactive experiences. You enjoy applying your experience on the end-to-end graphics pipeline to new domains and platforms. You lead by doing while intentionally growing the skills and talents of those around you.

Principle Responsibilities And Tasks
  • Able to use multiple CAD and visualization softwares to create a virtual vehicle to host product reviews to solve and create decision making processes
  • Work with 3D models, textures, materials, shaders and sounds to build cohesive and immersive environments
  • Develop Realtime files for product evaluation (Powerwall, CAVE, HMD)
  • Knowledge of product design concepts and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated to coordinate tasks and requirements with customers, designers, and managers
  • Actively identify new areas of learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Ability to identify and voice vehicle issues to program teams, design studios, etc.
  • Stay ahead of the curve with new immersive technology
  • Comfortable presenting to all levels of leadership for reviews
  • Understanding of vehicle data management organization (vehicle partitioning and product structure - VPPS)
Skills And Abilities

Additional Job Description
  • Adept 3D math skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, (written and verbal)
  • Experience with Virtual Reality hardware (Headsets, Tracking Devices, Haptic Gloves, etc...)
  • Ability to integrate multiple data sources
  • Ability to work with pre-existing guidelines, standard operating procedures in a fast-paced professional environment

Education And Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Digital Graphic Design, Game Design, Media Arts, 3D Art or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years working in a 3D related industry or profession
  • End-to-end digital asset creation pipeline (modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation)
  • High quality digital creation
  • Familiarity with Virtual, Augmented, Mixed, and Extended Reality
