Senior Hardware Engineer

Employer

Job Description

The Mixed Reality Sensor Team is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer focused on motion sensing. The Mixed Reality Sensor Team is responsible for design, characterization, and integration of sensors including camera modules, inertial motion sensors, and other environmental sensors. This role will be focused on design, characterization, integration, and validation of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) subsystems for HoloLens and other Mixed Reality devices. The IMU subsystems include components such as MEMS gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, and others.

Responsibilities
  • Characterize sensitivity and noise performance of gyroscopes and accelerometers using precision rate tables, linear vibratory tables, angular vibration testers, and more.
  • Characterize magnetic sensors using precision magnetic devices, precision magnetometers, etc.
  • Work with component suppliers to understand product offerings, drive technology roadmaps, and develop custom modifications as necessary.
  • Work with software engineers to understand system level sensing requirements and flow down to component level requirements.
  • Work across functional teams including program management, system electrical engineering, system mechanical engineering, and software engineering.
  • Drive innovation and miniaturization in motion sensing technologies
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working in motion sensing technologies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with system integration of MEMS motion sensors including tradeoffs around component placement, PCB design, and system interference sources
  • Experience in signal processing of inertial sensor data including calculation of metrics such as noise density, bias stability, Allan variance, etc.
  • Experience in integrating IMU subsystems in augmented-reality and/or virtual-reality devices
  • Understanding of design and manufacturing of MEMS gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers
  • Experience with test equipment used to characterize and validate motion sensors.
  • Experience with factory calibration of IMU subsystems
  • Working knowledge of python and ability to use and develop test automation software
  • Ability to work across disciplines, including the ability to work with electrical engineers, software algorithm developers, manufacturing engineers, managers, reliability, and vendors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Requirements

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
