Our entry market will focus on restoring lifestyle independence to the visually impaired (low vision including legally blind) with market leading digital eyewear.


Innovega (www.emacula.io) is expanding its contact lens development team to include a Senior Process Development Engineer who will lead the refinement and optimization of our iOptik contact lens manufacturing process in preparation for FDA clinical trials and who will be engaged in the transfer of these processes to a commercial launch manufacturer.


This position will offer the selected individual the opportunity to lead the Process Development program at Innovega, and to work with the complement of scientists, engineers, and technicians to complete second and third generation contact lens technology development.


This is an immediate hire position. Innovega is current located in Sorrento Mesa, but we are relocating to Rancho Bernardo in December 2021.


Responsibilities

  • Process Creation for optimization of yield, cost, and cycle time
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in Process Development Engineering as a corporate capability
  • Participate in requirements definition and conceptual design development for fixtures and equipment that support the processes
  • Implement and execute Design of Experiments methodology for more disciplined and efficient optimization
  • Create and manage tools and standards for Data Analysis and Statistical Analysis
  • Work with Lab Operations to implement cGMP workflow practices into existing workflow
  • Participate in the design of floorplan, workflow, and capital equipment selection for new development laboratory facilities
  • Assist Lab Operations with staff assignment including workflow, near-term, and long-term lab activities
  • Participate in hiring processes and employee evaluations for contact lens process development and fabrication staff
  • Train and support internal lens fabrication team to grow their skills related to process development engineering including DOE, Statistical Models, and Data Analysis


Requirements

  • Educational background in engineering or science
  • Career Experience in Process Development Engineering
  • Combined: BS plus 12 years relevant experience or MS plus 8 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to rise out of ambiguity and deliver results with limited guidance
  • Demonstrated collaboration experience in working as a leader and a follower in a multifunctional team at various stages of a project
  • Excellent hand skills in a clean lab environment including detailed precision handling of fragile components under a microscope
  • Direct experience with liquid silicone rubber and silicone elastomer polymers
  • Direct experience with molding, casting, and surface modification of a variety of polymers
  • Demonstrate aptitude at avoiding unnecessary research and remaining focused on delivering successful project outcomes
  • Proven and demonstrated skill at leading small teams
  • Demonstrated ability to meet challenging deadlines with high quality results
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to listen well and lead complex discussions
