Facebook Reality Labs is at the forefront of human-centered technology, and the Virtual Reality team in particular is growing fast both in user adoption and in team scale to develop the next computing platform that encompasses social connection, entertainment, productivity, and more. As a Product Design Director, you will lead and manage teams to ensure our products and features are valuable for users and developers alike, that are easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and execution.In this role, you’ll lead the team that is at the heart of the operating system for VR. From navigation between immersive apps, to a full-featured multitasking virtual tablet/laptop, to user customization and more. It requires constant UX simplification, ruthless prioritization and exceptional communication while managing and building up a world-class design team.You’ll be responsible for working with product partners in engineering, product management, UX research, content design and more in synthesizing the vision of where the VR operating system is headed, helping outline key steps along the way, and determining how to tactically achieve them in product. You’ll be tasked with setting some of the principles and guardrails for anyone that builds on it from programmability and extensibility to intentional limitations.

Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a talented, diverse, inclusive team of product designers and leaders that consistently delivers on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets.
  • Drive collaboration and vision across the company to build alignment on priorities leading to product design and execution.
  • Shape the product roadmap, both short term and long-term.
  • Partner closely with a world-class (and global) team of product managers, engineers, content designers, user experience researchers, data scientists, and product growth analysts to deliver high quality experiences for people across markets, platforms and product surfaces.
  • Oversee multiple projects and scale design resources accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met, your organization is effective, and team members are set up for success by setting clear and measurable goals.
  • Develop design talent and build a thriving culture where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.
  • Design and scale the organization and equip the team for success in their goals.
  • Foster a strong, collaborative design practice.
Minimum Qualification
  • Experience building platforms/operating systems for a two-sided marketplace of consumers and developers.
  • 6+ years of experience in Product Design.
  • 6+ years of leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors.
  • 6+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content and user research teams.
  • Senior people management, team development, recruiting and org building experience.
  • Experience growing a strategic design practice within design teams.
  • Visual and interaction experience in software design.
  • Organizational and analytical experience.
