Job Description
Company:Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Job Area:Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Multimedia Systems
General Summary
Designs and develops technologies related to the generation or manipulation of content targeted at the human senses or machine perception. These technologies include speech, audio, imaging, computer vision, display, sensing, biometrics, and augmented/virtual reality. Analyzes use cases related to multimedia technologies and performs functional decomposition to drive requirements for implementation into hardware or software. Performs system analysis and uses simulation modeling to propose algorithmic or system modifications that enable optimization of performance and power.
The Responsibilities Of This Role Include
- Working under close supervision.
- Taking responsibility for own work and making decisions with limited impact; impact of decisions is readily apparent; errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct).
- Using verbal and written communication skills to convey basic, routine factual information about day-to-day activities to others who are fully knowledgeable in the subject area.
- Working within prescribed budget and resources.
- Completing most tasks with multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
- Exercising some creativity to troubleshoot technical problems or deal with novel circumstances.
- Using deductive problem solving to solve moderately complex problems; most problems have defined processes of diagnosis/detection; some limited data analysis may be required.
The Responsibilities Of This Role Do Not Include
- Providing supervision/guidance to others.
- Influence over key organizational decisions.
- Role in strategic planning.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Works under supervision to design systems-level software and hardware enabling multimedia functionality.
- Participates in coordination of design reviews for subsystem development; works with project team to identify design constraints.
- Collaborates within the immediate team to design products that meet internal customer requirements and standards.
- Tests software and hardware in a lab under supervision to identify issues; partner with the system team to develop testing specifications; works with team members to validate software or hardware against specifications; tests accuracy, reliability, performance, power, and robustness of design using a defined test plan; present basic data analysis findings.
- Uses appropriate tools to conduct basic analyses of software or hardware design with minimal supervision.
- Works under supervision to program small portions of a feature; seeks to understand how algorithms operate and implement algorithms on chips.
- Executes tasks and solves straightforward issues related to the engineering and management of machine learning data with some guidance from more experienced engineers.
- Develops or adapts machine learning algorithms, models, or frameworks aligned with product proposals or roadmaps with some guidance from more experienced engineers.
- Plans and executes experiments to train and evaluate machine learning algorithms or models with some guidance from more experienced engineers.
- Participates in technical conversations and documentation (e.g., schematics, FDD, HLDR); escalates basic technical issues to an appropriate contact (e.g., project lead, colleagues).
Physical Requirements
- Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
- Continuous communication (e.g., on conference calls) which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
- Works in the lab, can use hazardous chemicals (e.g., glue, machinery).
