Job Description
Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.
At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a broad set of experiences, including embedded design, analog/mixed signal design, RF, or multimodal sensing. The systems we work with could have ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs from simple to large, displays, audio, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, image sensors, and high-speed I/O. The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing mixed high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be familiar with agile development processes. They should have enough firmware skills to successfully bring boards up and get them to a proof-of-concept level of readiness, and the ability to work with a team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
Responsibilities
- Designing schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into electro-mechanical systems.
- Collaborating in a team environment across engineering disciplines.
- Transforming vendor reference designs into custom solutions.
- Transforming ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions.
- Incubating new technologies into research prototypes.
Minimum Qualification
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience with schematic and board layout using Cadence OrCAD, Altium or equivalent.
- Experience with use of bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and function generators.
- Experience with low and high-speed digital communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, MIPI and USB SS.
- 5+ years industry experience directly contributing to product design and manufacturing process, involving the fabrication and assembly of Printed Circuit Boards, Flexible Printed Circuits, Rigid Flexible Printed Circuits, and mechanical systems integration within a concurrent environment.
- Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualification
- Demonstrates strong aptitude for creative problem solving.
- Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies.
- Experience creating initial system bring-up code or debug and test code in C/C++/Python.
- Experience designing portable electronic devices.
- Experience in low power design and/or high thermally constrained designs.
- Experience with PCBA and product level failure modes (production and field).
- Experience with relating failure mode to process, material and design related stressors.
- Experience specifying components and working with cross functional partners to ensure they meet spec/packaging requirements.
- Experience with HDI design and analog design.
