BigBox VR, maker of POPULATION: ONE, is seeking an Engineering Manager who can help build the next generation of games for Virtual Reality. We are looking for a strong communicator who loves the iterative technical and creative process. This person will have the desire to understand a product holistically and can contribute creatively, knowing when to be pragmatic and when to be blue sky. This person will make engineering trade-offs that align with business objectives while embracing teamwork, as well as solve problems independently. An ideal candidate has experience with common engineering and game development practices, and is capable of managing and supporting a team of highly-skilled programmers.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the team to manage day-to-day tasks and communications
  • Coordinate with all disciplines to schedule important tasks and track them through development
  • Provide feedback and guidance to team members, and support them in their career growth
  • Work closely with the team’s leadership to set high-level goals and directions for our projects
  • Build, scale, and support web services that provide the foundation of our games and infrastructure
  • Build, scale, and support build and release pipelines that allow our team to ship across multiple platforms
Minimum Qualification
  • Experience managing or leading an engineering team at a game studio
  • Demonstrated management experience shipping products
  • Experience operating and scaling live web services
  • 5+ years experience of game development or multiple shipped games
  • General knowledge of engineering practices and workflows
  • Familiar with the game development lifecycle, and all involved disciplines
  • Experience coordinating with managers and producers across multiple teams
  • Experience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and/or discussion within the team
  • Experience helping engineers find their way through difficult problems
Preferred Qualification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience growing and mentoring teams
  • Experience working with AR or VR
  • Experience in programming games and/or engine technology
  • Working knowledge of 3D math
  • Knowledge of game development
  • Shipped successful games in the past
