Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is dedicated to research and development required to deliver Facebook's vision of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences that ship in five to ten years. As a Technical Program Manager for Digital Human Research, your job will be figuring out what we need to do to build it. You'll be a critical member of a multi-disciplinary team contributing to our efforts to gain a scientific understanding of the next generation of virtual humans, biomechanics, neuroscience, motion analysis, simulations, computer vision, and whatever else we dream up to create the ultimate AR/VR experiences.As a Technical Program Manager for Digital Human Research, your role will be to work with the multidisciplinary research and engineering team to drive, plan, coordinate, communicate, digital human research projects, and cross-functional interactions. To be successful, you will be eliminating barriers to your team's success and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues. Ideal team members are adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient.

Responsibilities
  • Program Manage our research/engineering team's efforts to develop software/hardware for prototype systems and our team's efforts to drive human subject experiment protocols and data collection studies to verify the prototype systems
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of qualitative methods and a subset of quantitative methods, such as surveys
  • Work with research/engineering teams to identify scope, constraints, dependencies, bottlenecks, and risks and translate to an action plan
  • Coordinate cross-functional interactions, communication, and alignment
  • Define and maintain schedule, gather requirements, track resources, develop integration plans, track progress, prioritize initiatives, and proactively identify/address potential setbacks
  • Create and manage new processes and tools to improve team collaboration and communication
  • Help define organization-wide practices for privacy and other policy compliance around data collection and handling by research teams
  • Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage risk
  • Ensure that the information your team needs is complete, current, accurate, and easy to find. Recognize when further information is required and work to provide it
Minimum Qualification
  • 5+ years of industry technical program management experience
  • Experience defining and driving project progress and schedules
  • Communication, cross-functional collaboration, relationship building, and leadership skills, with experience motivating people and resolving conflicts
  • Organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills, with attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience in technical program management for research
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, e.g., research, software, and hardware
  • Exposure to hardware prototyping and development processes
  • Experience managing budgets
