Qualcomm, a world leader in the development of wireless technology and products, relies on its valuable patent portfolio to generate substantial revenue for investment in research and development. Qualcomm is seeking talented and motivated patent attorneys to apply their legal, technical, and communication skills with engineers and business units to develop high quality, high-value patents throughout the world. The candidate should understand the technology, business plans, product roadmaps, industry practices, domestic and international patent laws, and work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve this goal. Specific responsibilities include managing outside counsel, drafting patent applications, drafting responses to official communications, interviewing examiners, performing patent analyses including infringement, clearance, patentability and validity analyses, and collaborating with counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional practices and laws. Other responsibilities include participating in design-around analysis, license and contract analysis, and performing due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions and investments.

Physical Requirements
  • Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
  • Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.

Education

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors - Computer Engineering, Bachelors - Electrical Engineering, Bachelors - Mechanical Engineering, Juris Doctorate - from ABA approved law school

Work Experiences

US: Admitted to a state bar in good standing.2+ years experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or litigation experiencePatent Attorneys working in the US must be registered at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Patent Attorneys working in India must be registered with the India patent office. Patent Attorneys working in China must be qualified as a China patent agent. Patent Attorneys working in Europe must have passed the EQE.

2+ years experience in patent preparation and prosecution in software, electrical, communications, or related fields. ,2+ years managing a portfolio, including budgets. ,Non-US: Passed bar for the country in which they practice. ,5+ years patent law experience at a law firm or in-house. ,3+ years experience in patent preparation and prosecution. ,2+ years engineering experience in software, electrical, communications, or related fields.
