Facebook Reality Labs is exploring the potential of virtual and augmented reality to bring people together in new ways. We are designing technologies that help people to create, share meaningful moments, and build communities using the unique qualities of these immersive new mediums. We aim to develop experiences that put people first, defining a future where virtual reality enables us to connect with the people and content we care about like never before. We are seeking a Live Planning and Production Lead to join the FRL Media Content Team. This candidate will be responsible for the planning and production of various formats of video content for distribution on the first-party Media apps on the Oculus platform. This candidate will understand the intricacies of immersive and traditional media production and the technical delivery of live streamed and source file based content, while operating in a fluidly dynamic environment. The candidate should also understand how various content can be presented to various audiences in VR.
Responsibilities
- Function as Executive in charge (EIC) of live/scheduled slate and main producer/point of contact for live content partners across sports, entertainment, and gaming.
- Work with Content Strategy, Programming, and Content Acquisition to ensure live portfolio is well-balanced, interesting, and high-quality.
- Manage relationships with production partners and add more companies to the roster of approved partners by identifying capabilities, negotiating terms, generating new partner agreements, and onboarding entities as vendors.
- Act as liaison between partners and internal teams, including engineers, marketing, product, design.
- Problem-solve and unblock partners through whatever urgent problems or questions they have.
- Ensuring that partners are connected with teams at the physical venues, so they can work out issues in advance of test shoots.
- Coordinate with LiveOps to help get partners special access so they can review their content and iterate, ensuring the highest quality content for Media surfaces.
- Drive technical discussions with IP holders and production companies, driving team to clarity.
- Advise Business Development and Legal on required contract terms and financial tracking.
- Driving new agreements with partners, and policing and troubleshooting obligations by partners and Oculus.
- Fielding inbound interest from internal and external teams and reviewing concept pitches from partners and providing creative possibilities to facilitate improvements to concepts.
- Managing content portfolio, to ensure that it's well balanced, interesting and high-quality.
- Coordinate with partners and BD/Legal to ensure all “Rights & Clearances” are in place and proper processes are followed.
- Generating new SOWs for incremental work with production partners.
- Providing creative concept feedback to content and production partners.
- Reviewing partner test footage, evaluating the content and whether multiple cameras are required, adequate camera positions to ensure coverage of a live event, logistics with artists and de-risking onsite productions.
- Investigating technical issues with Product Managers and Engineers.
- Day-of-event coordination with external partners to ensure streams are running and healthy.
- On call support for partners when they are on the ground shooting, which can often be after hours.
- Lobbying for inclusion reflected in content creative and production.
- Coordinating with internal engineering stakeholders to ensure we have proper infrastructure to support different streaming formats for content, including setting up and running meetings with third parties, driving conversations & following up on action items.
Minimum Qualification
- 7+ years of experience producing and programming live video content.
- Experience handling a high volume of communications over chat, email, phone, and in-person.
- Experience thinking critically and creatively to resolve problems.
- Experience communicating external partner feedback to internal stakeholders.
- Program management experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience producing immersive media/VR content creation.
- Experience with content and video management systems.
- Understands current trends in pop culture, entertainment, sports and gaming.
- Understands new technology and the AR/VR industry.
- Experience working in a large organization with a dynamic environment.
- Experience working with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
