Join our team designing and building ground breaking, futuristic features including Augmented Reality (AR) navigation on Head-Up Displays (HUDs) and detailed vehicle and diagnostic information to help customers keep their vehicles running smoothly.

Systems engineers are recognized subject matter experts in their domain and are responsible for writing detailed end-to-end systems design requirements for technical implementation of features and functions. They must comprehend the interfaces and interactions between in-vehicle systems, consumer devices, GM back office and other cloud service environments. Systems engineers will interact across organizations and with suppliers to develop these new features and functions and to ensure they are integrated effectively into the vehicle and end-to-end systems.

This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite every other week to collaborate and review early builds and integration issues.

Job Description
  • Lead and participate in multi-functional end-to-end feature development teams (feature owner, systems engineers, and other key partners) to build requirements for all vehicle, system, and back office systems as necessary for multiple features
  • Interact with cybersecurity, legal, and privacy representatives to ensure components, systems, and communication protocols are specified in a secure and legal fashion while maintaining our user's privacy
  • Create and document technical designs as requirements.
  • Actively test new features as they are released
  • Support, analyze, and create feature sets working with the multi-functional, global team of partners
  • Perform feature sizing assessments
  • Define and specify system-level interfaces using system modeling tools in collaboration with navigation and other teams
  • Build specifications at all levels, including describing system, subsystem, and functional behavior
  • Lead vital architecture modifications to support new and improved features and ensure modifications are completed both within and outside Infotainment areas
  • Build and maintain system technical specifications and lower-level design element specifications in the DOORs Next-Gen (DNG) environment
  • Lead and support development of feature context diagrams (DCDs) and data flow diagrams (DFDs) to the vital levels of decomposition
  • Allocate and specify system requirements for features
  • Conduct and participate in feature and system DFMEAs
  • Create and support Advanced Technology Work (ATW) plans for features
  • Approve new feature content
  • Review and approve validation and verification plans for features
  • Lead peer reviews of feature- and system-level specifications
  • Generate Infotainment technical solutions for current and new vehicle programs
  • Provide technical leadership for sophisticated technology development
  • Perform sophisticated design analysis at multiple levels of design
  • Plan and implement tests for new features
  • Lead and support design and release teams in feature and system creation and definition
  • Communicate, coordinate, and consult with multiple engineering departments and customers
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive product
Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of post-graduation experience required
  • BSE, BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience with visual processing algorithms and perspective transformation formulas in 3D space
  • Basic understanding of automotive development
  • Understanding of automotive infotainment system operation
  • Experience with embedded automotive modules
  • Demonstrated knowledge of communications, connected vehicle services, Infotainment/Telematics systems engineering, and related communication protocols
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle electrical architectures, body control or other integration control modules, and in-vehicle network communications (such as Ethernet, CAN)
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners and multi-functional teams to develop requirements to meet mutual goals
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical and electrical mechanisms
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and practices
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and sophisticated
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Ability to write engineering requirements based on feature needs
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 5% max).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Software development experience
  • 4+ years of post-graduation experience
  • MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • General understanding of back-office architectures
  • Expertise in the following areas: navigation solutions on multiple platforms, APIs and SDKs, OS (Linux, Android, QNX), communication protocols, web services, software development lifecycle, embedded software, cybersecurity, and client-server solutions
  • Working knowledge preferred in following domains: app framework, audio, telematics, Java and other structured languages, HTML5, embedded software knowledge, in-vehicle networking protocols such as Ethernet, CAN, USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cellular, speech recognition, security protocols, and HMI design
  • Experience using requirements management applications such as Rational DOORS NextGen
  • Previous experience with Agile process
  • Experience using change management tools such as RTC
  • Experience using modelling software such as Visio
  • Advanced experience with basic computing tools such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Experience using collaboration tools such as MS SharePoint
  • Electrical architecture and/or electrical systems team experience
