Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

Who You Are

As the leader of the Information Display and Simulation group in the Vehicle Systems Research Lab, you will manage Human Machine Interaction (HMI) Research scientists in the Information Displays & Simulation group, overseeing the planning and execution of research in various areas within the HMI domain.

Your immediate task will be to lead and manage innovation in several content domain areas:
  • Human performance testing and modeling using immersive technologies, Driving Simulators, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR)
  • Design and evaluation of User Experience in autonomous vehicles and ADAS
  • Displays and Optics
What You Do

In addition, you will demonstrate your deep knowledge of Human Factors, Statistics, Cognitive Psychology, and Usability Testing/Engineering to craft a quantifiably better human performance in GM's future vehicles. You will publish your research findings in peer-reviewed conferences and journals to enhance the reputation of General Motors. You will also network effectively with vendors, research institutes, startup companies, and other advanced technology laboratories to build a leverage-able partnership network that can be used to grow investments and augment the GM skills base.
  • Define technical and business objectives for team
  • Manage and lead a team of scientists/researchers
  • Hiring: Identify & lead staffing initiatives.
  • Communicating: Conduct regularly scheduled Group Meetings, communicate GM Policies & Procedures and Leadership and Safety Messages. Create and communicate initiatives specific to functional responsibilities in support of business plan objectives and deliverables. Motivate and support team in reporting results internally and externally through timely, high-quality presentations, internal reports, technical reports, and publications.
  • Training & Developing: Ensure employees complete all mandatory training. Understand & support employee's career development goals. Develop and execute initiatives to improve work team capabilities and increase work team capacity.
  • Assigning Work: Assign and manage workload for direct reports. Set individual employee and group priorities.
  • Personnel Development: Reviews of deliverables and behavior; provide candid & constructive feedback. Conduct performance interventions when vital.
  • Recognition: Formally & informally, recognize employee's contributions. Provide timely and consistent feedback to direct employees as appropriate. Participate in compensation planning and delivery of compensation treatment
  • Removing Roadblocks & Resolving Issues: Observe and step up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues
  • Innovate: Lead design and development of advanced GM battery cells. Develop strategic action plans to support business goals. Support root cause of issues by collaborating with applicable engineering organizations. Provide leadership and direction to battery cell Technical Review Boards and advanced technical work groups. Generate new ideas, propose new R&D projects, evaluate technologies, plan and execute projects to meet customer needs. Ensure timely protection of all IP
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical trends/developments affecting areas of responsibility
What You Need

Additional Job Description
  • Master's degree in engineering, a physical science, or equivalent scientific/engineering field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years extensive technical/work experience
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and state-of-the-art immersive technologies geared toward the betterment of human performance in and around future technological innovations
  • Capability to contribute to the plan for a viable solution and its implementation
  • Detailed understanding of establishing network/relationships with internal powertrain, vehicle engineering, and business unit customers
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies, project goals and plans and to oversee budgets and resources.
  • Proven people leadership skills in developing, empowering, and inspiring team members
  • Excellent sociability in working effectively globally with both internal and external customers/agencies, including executive management
  • Demonstrated innovation skills and organizational agility to be an effective champion of change while developing and maintaining a strategic vision for the team
  • Proven project management skills with understanding of the product development process
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise with a balance in creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical topics and make decisions with imperfect information
  • Resourcefulness to working with multiple projects spanning different technical areas
