At Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Haptics Research Scientist to join our team, whose mission is to research and develop new technologies that will improve human-computer interactions and create new ways to control AR/VR devices. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in haptic device technologies, SW tooling and human perception to realize advanced interactive systems. The chosen candidate will drive research and/or engineering efforts in their area of expertise with internal and external partners. The chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Propose and conduct research and engineering activities in a cross-functional team environment
  • Design, realize and setup haptic device technologies
  • Conceptualize, build and prototype user interactions and experiences with haptic feedback technologies and test in multimodal use cases
  • Develop, test and improve haptic algorithms in multidimensional sensory environments
  • Plan and execute cutting-edge research to improve human-computer interaction and create new ways to control AR/VR devices
Minimum Qualification
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • PhD in Engineering, Robotics, HCI, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience with prototyping tools, game engines, and/or controlling haptic devices
  • 3+ years of experience programming in C, C++, MATLAB or Python
  • 3+ years of research experience involving defining problems, exploring solutions, and analyzing results
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience prototyping with various actuator and sensor technologies
  • Experience in designing, conducting and analyzing perception studies
  • Experience in Machine Learning and data driven approaches for optimization and modeling
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as authored publications at leading journals, workshops or conferences such as Transactions on Haptics, CHI, SIGGRAPH, or similar
