What You’ll Be Able To Do

The Manufacturing Engineering IT Product Line manages a large portfolio of engineering applications for Manufacturing Engineering communities in Powertrain, Vehicle Operations and Stamping Engineering. State-of-the-art technologies and methods are developed and leveraged to provide solutions to enable Manufacturing Engineering to complete GPDS deliverables and milestones for new vehicle programs, including launch and continuous plant optimization. The person will join the Ford Extended Reality (XR) team supporting Manufacturing activities. This includes:
  • Conduct end-to-end research and evaluation of emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality (AR/VR/MR), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) using Unity, Unreal, PyTorch and other tools.
  • Design and develop proof-of-concepts and rapid prototyping XR software in support of Teamcenter (Ford’s Product Lifecycle Management, PLM), FEDE (Ford’s Systems Engineering) and Advanced Manufacturing.
  • Design, build and implement a cross enterprise software system to support repurposing of 3D CAD geometry from Catia V5, JT file formats to fbx, gltf, vred and other XR formats for PLM, Systems engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.
  • Ensure that the software system developed is functioning according to the needs of users through continuous testing and maintenance
  • Set up standards for XR hardware (HTC Vive, Oculus rift, Microsoft HoloLens), XR software and infrastructure needs for successful deployment of XR applications.
  • Develop performance, scalability, reliability, networking and security standards for AR/VR/MR applications for global deployment through regressive testing, load testing and other software testing tools.
  • Contribute towards the research and development of an enterprise strategy for Factory of future, Industry 4.0 and digital Engineering
  • Lead and initiate work with business partners, vendors and technical experts to take solutions from Proof-of-Concept into pilot and ultimately production.
  • Work with the PLM, Systems Engineering and manufacturing business partners in identifying their high-level requirements and translating them into technical specifications
  • Manage new releases, license management and technical issues related to engineering visualization applications.
  • Perform internal audits for license management to adhere with enterprise agreements
  • Leading global user meetings, prioritizing and communicating requirements
  • Cycle Planning or Consumption Planning.
The Minimum Requirements We Seek
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related field of study
  • 3+ years of experience with technical research and writing technical specifications
  • 2+ years of experience with FEDE/Systems Engineering/CAD related toolsets (Teamcenter, CATIA)
Our Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related field of study
  • Background in Mfg. Engineering and/or PD Engineering
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems
  • Experience with Unreal/Unity is a plus
  • Experience with leading and working on global cross-functional teams
  • Technical knowledge of wired/wireless networking products, services, protocols, and standards a plus
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with business and IT partners
  • Ability to articulate the effect of IT technologies in business terms
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and effectively
  • Self-motivated to understand and comprehend new and complex material
