Summary

Interactive Media Group (IMG) provides the media and graphics foundation across all of Apple's innovative products, including iPhone, AppleTV, Apple Watch, iPad, iPod, AirPods, Macs as well as professional and consumer applications from Final Cut to iWork. IMG takes the media experience to the next level on the iOS, tvOS, watchOS, macOS and Windows platforms with technologies such as AVFoundation, CoreMedia, CoreAudio, CoreAnimation and Metal.

Our team is responsible for implementing software services around linear audiovisual media. This includes local media playback, video-on-demand and live streaming of multimedia content. Our media engine is used across Apple products such as Safari, Photos, Music, TV, iMovie on iOS and macOS as well as 3rd party applications.

The CoreMedia engineering team within IMG is looking for a software engineer to join our team to work on designing and implementing support for media formats in our playback and export pipelines to power the next generation of interactive experiences for our platforms using Apple's latest technologies including RealityKit and ARKit. We are looking for an expert developer that has designed and improved media format and export workflows and has debugged complex and layered software stacks.


Key Qualifications

Strong coding skills in C with ARM on embedded platforms

5+ years experience developing and debugging large software systems

Experience designing sustainable media file formats and implementing authoring support for such formats

Experience with efficient reading and I/O of media file formats (for ex: QuickTime Movie, MPEG-4, MPEG-TS)

Experience with and understanding of real-time multithreaded programming systems

Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Description

You will be a proactive and team-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment. You will have experience in systems-level programming with an understanding of media components. And you will meet the challenge of improving the performance and software quality of our cross-platform media framework and and solve incredibly challenging and interesting problems in the AR/VR space. To be successful in this role, you need to be able to help design, build and troubleshoot media formats for playback and export.


Education & Experience

M.S. in CS/CE/EE or equivalent domain experience with a strong focus in software engineering


Additional Requirements

Desired, but not required:

Object oriented programming skills in either C++, Objective-C, or Swift

Proficiency in macOS, iOS or Unix development

Experience developing AR/VR and 360 video is a plus

Experience in developing and maintaining an API for multiple clients is desired

Knowledge of existing audiovisual format standards is a plus

Familiarity with typical multimedia file formats: QuickTime Movie, MPEG-4, MPEG-TS or other

Ability to design for memory/computation efficiency and debug related issues

Familiarity with typical multimedia file formats: WebM, MP3, Matroska or other
