Summary
Trigger is looking for a Director of 3D level up our 3D department. In this role you’ll oversee the scheduling, workflow, and overall creative success of Trigger’s 3D output for cutting-edge toys, mobile games, and applications based on Augmented Reality and other future technologies. You’ll get to experience some terrific brands with our amazing roster of clients.
This role is open to remote candidates anywhere in the US and Canada.
Responsibilities
- Own the direction and strategy of an emerging department to bring Trigger's 3D quality and efficiencies to the next level
- Monitor workload and assignments across an internal team of 3D artists as well as external vendors, balancing volume of work with artists’ creative strengths to provide clients with the best possible result
- Coordinate with Production teams to manage artists and ensure consistent, high quality creative output
- Work closely with Creative and Art Directors to establish clear creative direction and provide creative feedback on 3D models and animations
- Assist on breaking down and bidding 3D work for projects, suggesting efficient techniques to keep bids competitive and minimize unnecessary production needs
- Proactively anticipate issues with existing workflow, technology, and staffing, and present solutions in collaboration with Leadership
- Occasional hands-on 3D work may be required, while maintaining sufficient bandwidth for the other duties of the Director of 3D role
- Cultivate a team-oriented approach across the department and project teams, addressing any interpersonal conflicts promptly and in a collaborative manner
- In collaboration with HR, participate in hiring, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and releasing 3D staff
- Prepare and document workflows and best practices, organizing them to be readily available to staff
REQUIREMENTS
- Comfortable leading and building 3D Generalist teams comprised of both internal artists and external vendors
- Highly proficient in Maya and optimizing models for AR or other real-time and digital media
- Diverse capabilities on the principles of 3D such as: animation, high- and low-poly modeling, rigging, retopology, texturing, shading, lighting, rendering, effects, scripting, tracking, and compositing
- Knowledge of applicable software including, but not limited to: Maya, Unity, Unreal, 3dsMax, Zbrush, Substance Painter/Designer
- Strong creative eye for a variety of styles from realistic to cartoony to simplistic, with a fundamental understanding of lighting principles, color theory, and latest 3D techniques
- Role model in conflict resolution and ability to provide insight into complex situations for the team
- Highly organized person who enjoys the creative process and managing a team of artists
- A love for the intersection of tech, entertainment, toys, games, and pop culture
