The FRL (Facebook Reality Lab) team at Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class hardware and software. As part of the FRL Operations team, we are builders who break down barriers to what is possible. Together we design and build manufacturing processes that transform technology into products.As Display Manufacturing Design Engineer in the AR/VR organization, you will be responsible for critical parts of display components and module process development and manufacturing at Tier 1.5 and Tier2 vendors. You will collaborate across multiple projects with display engineers, product designers to enable novel AR/VR experiences. You will be the interface between the Tech Ops Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to implement and execute comprehensive process and technical solutions for our products.

Responsibilities
  • Drive manufacturing process innovation/architecture from new technology integration (NTI) to EVT phase in Display for AR/VR products. Hand over to APAC MDE for scalability after EVT
  • Interface with Hardware Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Tech Ops to identify, audit and select the best suppliers’ partner (SPOR) to manufacture our products
  • As a Display MDE, you will be responsible for: display front end manufacturing, display/touch module process including bonding, lamination, cover glass manufacturing, coating processes
  • Process fixture DFM, process bring up and qualifications
  • Work with APAC MDE counterparts, Hardware engineering and vendors to develop MP intend equipment, process and materials
  • Optimize processes for cycle time reduction, automation, cost saving
  • Work with Quality Team to define quality characterization, inspection methodology, and qualification of components (cover glass, LCD/OLED/4K module process qualifications, etc.)
  • Work with a cross functional team to debug the optical/display module issues. Identify root cause and provide improvements via process optimization and qualifications
  • Travel 30% to APAC Tier 1 and Tier 2 vendors for build support
Minimum Qualification
  • Experience with lens manufacturing, film/lens lamination, die cut, laser cutting, adhesion (i.e. Optical Crystal Adhesion), lens/display coating process development (i.e. AR coating, IR ink development, optical coating).
  • BS degree or higher in Optical or Display Engineering, Chemical, Physics or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience and technical hands-on display or optical manufacturing.
  • Experience with high-volume consumer electronics manufacturing, partnering with world-wide supply chain partners and contract manufacturers.
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience working under pressure, less supervision, driving hard decision making
