We are seeking a Technical Program Manager on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs.
  • This role will be remote while COVID restrictions are in place. The expectation is to be onsite at our Customer’s Redmond, WA office once it is determined safe to do so.
What You’ll Do
  • Communicating progress to all stakeholders, and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific technical issues.
  • Lead product development activities to specify, procure, measure, and build advanced optical components and assemblies for AR/VR displays.
  • Collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams in the pursuit of shipping a 0-1 product: scoping and requirements definition, identifying and managing key constraints, and mapping development plans against program risks with strategies to enable success.
  • Manage projects with suppliers and partners, from writing statements of work to driving final deliverables in collaboration with support functions such as Ops, Business Development, Legal, and Procurement.
  • Evaluate suppliers’ capabilities to meet product requirements, partner with ops team to establish a robust and scalable supply chain strategy.
  • Operate at different levels of abstraction, from high-level strategic planning (technology selection, organizational structure, commercial partnerships, investment) to tactical project management (prioritization, schedule creation, milestone definition and execution, and deliverables management).
  • Break down the complexity of deeply technical programs to enable a clear understanding of scope and deliverables to a wider audience of team members and support functions.
  • Drive the execution of the plan and manage the day-to-day activities of the program.
  • Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to address them and manage risk.
  • Identify resources needed and work closely with team leaders to maintain full visibility of the project schedule and potential roadblocks.
  • Act as the main channel of communication for key formal discussions and decisions that involve technical team leader, support functions (Legal, Business Development, and Procurement) external partners, and other members of the organization.
  • Expect to travel domestically and internationally, 3-5 times a year.
Must Haves
  • 6+ years as a program manager (or related role) leading complex technology development programs.
  • Experience leading and partnering with Asian-based vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and technology transfer best practices and tools.
  • Experience leading teams through a phased product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, shipping, and ramping products into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience communicating technical information to non-experts, at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience building, coordinating, and maintaining schedules across multiple teams, and managing shared resources to lead successful technology development programs.
  • A high EQ with experience motivating, influencing, and resolving conflict amongst a cross-functional team.
  • A track record of transitioning immature or emerging technologies into consumer products.
  • A strong written and verbal communicator, able to synthesize information into the most salient points to move a team/initiative forward.
  • Experience in sensing applications enabled through imaging systems.
  • Experience operating in medical devices or other highly regulated industries.
  • Understanding of polarization and diffractive optics.
  • Understanding of displays and AR/VR devices.
  • Advanced manufacturing experience in semiconductor processing, fine pitch interconnects, advanced optical coatings, thin-film lamination.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in optical engineering, materials science, engineering, or a similar field.
Hours & Location:
  • M-F, 40 hours/week. This role will be remote while COVID restrictions are in place. The expectation is to be onsite at our Customer’s Redmond, WA office once it is determined safe to do so.
