Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as a Training Specialist or Sr. Training Specialist

Position Purpose

The position is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating learning solutions that meet the Duke Energy NGBU overall business goals.

Dimensions

Interacts will all levels of employees in the assessment of business needs and the recommendation and implementation of new learning solutions.

Nature And Scope

The incumbent must work cross-functionally to support departmental projects. The incumbent must have adequate business and technical knowledge to communicate with all groups of employees to ensure that the NGBU training and development goals are met efficiently, effectively, and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Identify learner needs, analyze and logically organize complex technical information, and transform complex bodies of information into professionally designed, engaging and effective formats and programs
  • Consult with SMEs and others to create instructor led, self-study, and computer based (including virtual reality and augmented reality) instructional content that effectively engages the learner; collaborate with content owners on updates, revisions, and maintenance
  • Follow industry standard (ADDIE) instructional design practices
  • Prepare clear learning objectives that reflect the required performance
  • Identify appropriate media and learning strategies/approaches; include a variety of formats (e.g., WBT and virtual courses) that meet/exceed quality standards and achieve desired learning objectives
  • Create and format job aids, in both print and video; produce instructor guides and participant materials
  • Develop instructional plans/design documents for review and approval; develop curriculum guides for courses and/or program components
  • Deliver training and development courses to a variety of different audiences
  • Design and supervise production of learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and electronic technologies to support curriculum offerings
  • Design and implement evaluation and assessment processes and tools to ensure high quality, transfer and application of learning, and achievement of key strategic goals
  • Explore and make recommendations for multimedia software use and electronic delivery methods as technology and software development products advance
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and issue logs; monitor the course development process to meet course offering deadlines; manage course projects from inception to completion
  • Manage the overall instructional development process and set standards for the design of curriculum and instructions
  • Stay abreast of field, bringing current industry best practices for documentation, development and instructional design
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objectives of the department

Basic/Required Qualifications: Training Specialist
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Education, Instructional Design, Training, or a related discipline
  • Two or more years’ experience in designing and developing instructor-led, self-study, and computer based learning solutions
  • Experience with e-learning software (e.g., Articulate, Lectora, Captivate, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Camtasia, etc.), e-learning design and development, and Learning Management Systems
Basic/Required Qualifications: Sr. Training Specialist
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Education, Instructional Design, Training, or a related discipline
  • Five or more years’ experience in designing and developing instructor-led, self-study, and computer based learning solutions
  • Proficient utilizing e-learning software (e.g., Articulate, Lectora, Captivate, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Camtasia, etc.), e-learning design and development, and Learning Management Systems (Specifically Conerstone)
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning, learning styles, and various instructional design approaches and processes to the learning content
  • Strong experience in developing training using various learning methods, including written, instructor-led, virtual, computer-based, virtual reality, and augmented reality
  • Demonstrated ability to identify users’ needs, analyze and logically organize complex technical information, and transform complex bodies of information into professionally designed, engaging, and effective programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, complex projects; strong project management and follow-up skills; strong ability to multi-task and continually prioritize changing project tasks/deliverables
  • Customer service orientation and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially written and oral communication skills
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Understanding of visual design
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Formal training in adult learning and/or instructional design for a systematic approach to training desired.
  • Ability to analyze and apply new training methods, applications, trends, and events impacting the field of Adult Learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to film, edit, and develop training videos.
  • Knowledge of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality training and design.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills for communicating information and addressing issues in a clear and effective manner to varying levels of employees and management.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and human relations skills, e.g., influencing skills and listening skills, to deal effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze concerns/issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Demonstrated project management skills to develop innovative, creative ideas to address complex training-related problems, concerns and programs.
    • Demonstrated presentation skills to speak effectively to large and small groups.
    • Demonstrated group process skills to effectively facilitate various groups.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities to influence and provide direction to team members and to advise management of team members’ performance and project status.
    • Ability to recognize the need for new or different systems, programs, or applications and selection of appropriate alternatives to solve problems.
    • Demonstrated project leadership skills to manage complex projects and to develop innovative, creative ideas to address complex training-related problems, concerns, and programs.
    • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
