Facebook Reality Labs Research has embarked on an ambitious mission to build the next computing platform in augmented and virtual reality systems. Our goals are to eliminate distance, make people more productive, replace physical objects, and give people the tools to feel more connected anytime and anywhere. We believe that a key component of this mission is to improve and enhance human hearing. We are looking for an innovative Research Scientist to join our growing interdisciplinary team, working to solve challenging problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio and signal processing. In this role, you will focus on developing advanced hearing correction signal processing techniques to advance research in AR/VR technology. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills and experience in any of hearing correction, real time signal processing, audiology, and hearing aid technology (e.g., dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, and noise suppression).
Responsibilities
- Develop advanced audio signal processing techniques and algorithms for hearing correction or self-adjustment applications in AR/VR technology in collaboration with the audio research team
- Work closely with other scientists in auditory perception and hearing sciences, serve as a resident expert, and contribute to broadening of knowledge around hearing sciences on the team
- Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals
- Publish research results in top-tier journals and present at leading international conferences
- Understand and stay up-to-date on the latest research literature
Minimum Qualification
- PhD or equivalent in the field of Hearing Science, Audiology, Acoustics, or related field
- 5+ years experience working with hearable devices, hearing correction, or speech enhancement technology
- 3+ years experience evaluating and developing DSP algorithms for hearing correction or hearing enhancement technology
- 3+ years experience building products, demos of proof-of concepts using signal processing
Preferred Qualification
- 5+ years of experience in dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, noise suppression, and audiology
- 5+ years experience with audiology, hearing science, microphone array processing or machine learning
